Hi. I am 2months pregnant and my gums have swollen over my back tooth. It hurts so bad. Is this normal while you're pregnant? If I'm in pain, does that affect the baby at all? I'm going to the dentist 2day but I'm scared he won't be able to fix it because I'm pregnant. What can I do to make sure this doesn't happen again? Please help me.

Gum problems are common during pregnancy. It is best to see your dentist at least twice during this time because your baby is absorbing extra nutrients from you.Take your prenatal vitamin daily & eat healtty.Be sure to tell the dentist you are pregnant so that won't take any harmful x-rays.

That happened to me. I am about 9 weeks pregnant. I have no idea what causes it. But, I used the medicated mouthwash. You could use medicated listerine or anything like it. I'm back to normal now. Maybe that could help you.

Oh yeah... make sure you're getting a lot of calcium in your diet. I drink Ensure and Orange Juice with calcium. Your teeth and bones need it during pregnancy. And, your baby needs it too.

The exact same thing happened to me when i was about 4-5 months pregnant! I went to the doctor asap and they gave me anitbiotics and it went away. I didnt think it had anything to do with being preggo but reading the other responses makes me feel a little better. Good Luck.

this is not normal for pregnancy but normal for infection. the infection can spread to your baby if left untreated. see your dentist and primary care physician. Treating the infection will not harm your baby. its okay and necessary to maintain your health while pregnant with regular dentist check ups.
