My GYN told me that the only thing that abnormal cells would effect would be how often you'd have to go in for check up's during your pregnancy and it may effect your birthing process ie... natural or c-section. But that in the long run it would make no difference. I'm sure everything will be fine! Don't worry to much it's not good for the baby! Congrats on your little one!

This is caused by human papillomavirus or HPV. You didn't do anything more than have sex with somebody to cause it. It is considered an STD, but approximately 200 million people are affected by this disease and it is estimated that up to 50% of men and women will have it some time in their life. It can cause cervical cancer and it can in rare instances be passed to your child during a vaginal birth.
I had an irregular pap smear almost exactly like yours, it is a very scary thing to have your doctor tell you. But I have a happy healthy 16 month old now and he didn't get HPV. I also by the end of my pregnancy still had the cells, but about four months after it cleared up. Other than having to have biannual paps, to monitor the cells to see if they come back there is not much that can be done.
On a brighter note for those girls/young ladies who have not had sex yet between the ages of 9 and 25, there is a new vaccine (Gardasil) that can highly decrease the chances of getting the HPV virus that causes cervical cancer. Once you have HPV though there is no cure and it can become dormant and then represent itself at a later time.

My pap came back abnormal almost 2 years ago. Mine was pretty bad. It can't harm your baby. Don't worry. If you have HPV which is a virus that can cause abnormal cells on your cervix, there is a new vaccine out that can help you later. However they will do a biopsy and see how bad it is. They will also more than likely preform a LEEP which they will cut out all the abnormal cells. They say about 80% of women hav HPV and don't know it. Mine wasn't caused by HPV though. I came back negative much to my doctor's disbelief. Don't worry about it. The whole point to pap's are to catch these things. If you have any questions or just want a shoulder to lean on, e-mail me any time. Good luck and don't worry!

With my first pregnancy came my first and only "abnormal" pap results. I had the biopsy done and in the end it was just irritation of the cervix and all was fine soon after.
They'll do the biopsy (which in itself is slightly painful =( and you sometimes pass some tissue after it from the biopsy itself) and test it. I wish you the best of luck!

No nothing can happen to your baby...however....these abnormal cells can lead to cancer....many many men & women have this...HPV....
You can have a vaginal birth if you choose...
Most likely after you deliver...you will have a seriers of pap smears to do to see that your cells are fine....This is what you will need to monitor for the rest of your life...it's recommended that you have a pap smear 2 times a year if you cultures don't return to normalcy.
Anyways, you and your baby will be fine.....don't sweat it..

I knew a lady who had the same thing happen. She didn't want more after the one she was carrying (it was her 4th) so she opted to have a hysterectomy after its birth. Her baby was healthy, happy, and perfect in every way. If you want to know for sure call the doctor back. Also.. you did nothing to cause it. It is just the way life goes sometimes. Good luck and congrats on the baby.

My cousin was to have a hysterectomy, and when they went in to remove her female organs, they discovered she was pregnant!!
She had no children, and desperately wanted one. So they stitched her up and she went to term, delivered vaginally, and then proceeded with the cancer treatments. The child and she are healthy and happy!! And this happened 20 years ago!
So don't worry!! You and your baby will be fine!
