KATY, TEXAS - While Kamel Fotouh makes plans to build a mosque on 11 acres of pasture here, neighbor Craig A. Baker is making plans of his own - plans to hold pig races.

Baker figures he'll need a tent, souvenirs and a track for the pigs to race on, all in full view of the Muslims next door, for whom pigs are forbidden as food.

As a bonus, Baker will host the competition on Friday - a Muslim holy day.

This is not meant as a slur on Islam, Baker said. It's a dispute between two neighbors. "A lot of people are making this into a racist situation, a redneck guy from Texas saying 'We're going to put on pig races,' " he said. "But I'm standing up for property rights."

okay before someone else lays down another race card, I should explain that Islam is not a race.

Carry on.

The constitution and for all it stands is what this country is "supposed" to be based on. You will find that we are loosing more rights every day. Thios country is infected with corruption so bad. The only place you can fully exercise your rights in the privacy of your own home. When this man decides to use his property, that neighbors may find offensive, that's when state ans city ordinences come into play. Keep in mind that if there is no Federal law to back the the state, then legally, it doesn't exist!

Why shouldn't he use his land for whatever he wants to? It may be an attack on Islam and the Muslims may find it offensive but he may equally find having a mosque next door offensive. It will be a sad day when this country has to give up its bacon because Muslims find pigs offensive. To be honest, if they don't like pigs, the US is a bad country to live in as pork is so popular here.

Definitely tacky and thoughtless. But just as the Muslims have the right to erect a mosque, he has a right to do with his land as he wishes. (Assuming it's in line with local ordinances.) That's a fundamental right of property owners although I do not think it's in the Constitution. Eminent Domain (in the Constitution) is another matter altogether.

from a legal stand point mi don't know. tha pig guy can probly do this as long as theres no gambling or vendors. because of zoning laws, and gambling laws. he would need a permit from tha town.

as far as building a church/mosque i don't know that either because they're exempt from business codes so don't know how that fall into tha zoning ordinances.

MY opinion? if you own tha land you should be able ta do whatever you want on it. its yours.
