Depending on the frequency of these reactions and the context they happen in, this behaviour can be considered as hyperactivity. Hyperactivity is often associated with Attention Deficit Disorder, but I wouldn't go that far in your case, as it doesn't seem to be so serious.
From your description, this behaviour could be explained in 2 ways:
A) Either you are hyperactive, and this should define you as constantly being agitated, talking too much, playing with objects, moving your feet, noisily tapping your pencil, being inattentive, unable to concentrate on a specific task, getting bored easily and moving on to something else without completing your previous task. In this case, this hyperactivity could also be associated with low school performance, and problematic interaction with other students or teachers.
B) You are hyperactive in certain moments of the day (and I think this is your case), because you have a lot of energy and don't know how to use it. Besides the "tics" that everyone has - which you can overcome with ambition - at one point everyone feels restless, especially if they don't have any entertaining or attention-demanding task.
If you think your profile matches option A), then you should see a psychologist who can run some tests for a better diagnosis.
If you are B), you should find more entertaining tasks to fill up your spare time. Join a sports club, or make a subscription to whatever you like - swimming, football, whatever will keep you very occupied and without breaks - like pool, which would give you time in between rounds to bite your nails or shake your legs. Do stuff in the house, build, repair, jog, anything that involves physical work. At the end of the day you'll be worn out, and your muscles will be too tired to be hyperactive!
For the nail biting (bad!!) habit, associate it with something bad, or difficult for you to cope with - for example, tell yourself that the girl you like won't look at you unless you have nice nails, and remember that each time you do it; or imagine that each time you do that, someone from your family will get a terrible tooth ache, or whatever you think has a strong impact on you. In time, you'll get used to it and become conscious of this habit and you will end it in maximum 2 weeks (as long as you find the right "punishment" to make yourself conscious of doing it) - it worked on me!
Try to use all that energy into positive goals, instead of wasting it on creating a bad image on yourself! I won't wish you luck, because I am sure you have the strength to overcome this!

I do a lot of the same things-constantly I shake my legs, I pick at my skin like blemishes or scabs, and I tweeze my eyebrows and make them bleed, I also pick my toenails off--I do this because of anxiety and when I am really stressed. I think some things are normal for everyone, but my psych prescribed me Xanax for times like that because I cannot sleep well either. It helps me to do something active when I am all wigged out like that or read or do yoga or something. But sometimes it is part of a disorder so you might want to check it out and see if there is anything causing you to do these things...

I pull and twist my hair. I think that I do it because it feels good when I am doing it. You probably do what you do for the same reason. If you want to stop, I recommend accupuncture. If you respond to things with your skin and nails, you will most likely respond to accupuncture. It might be able to help you feel pleasure spread out so you don't focus on these same repetitive behaviours so much.

Your nervous, some people may call this "tics", I call it nerves, for me Yoga, it strengthens the nervous system and helps me re adjust to unknown causes. You can go to the book store and buy a complete guide to Zin Yoga for about 16.00 or you can go to the psychiatrist for 80.00 an hour which he will probably recommend exercise. Please don't worry, you did good by coming to Yahoo Answers. You will get the answer you can accept. Also you can go to the Health Food Store and ask for Stress Tabs until you get a Yoga routine going. GOOD LUCK.

Yes he's right. You are very hyper. You need to see a doc for this disorder. Tell him what you are going through. Good luck.
