from his back pocket into the screen its not readable you can just see the outline from the button is this fixable or is that it ready for the bin!!! hes so upset

New screen is needed unless you can get it sorted under warrany, highly unlikley though. Expect to pay about £100 for a new screen fully fitted, If he is on billy pay with his operator they might replace the phone for free....there is no hope of them replacing the phone if he is on a pay as you go tarrif...
He could also replace the screen himself, you can usually find instruction somewhere on the net to do this...

It wouldnt be covered under warrenty and it would be an expensive repair.
First and best bet is that it could be insured and make a claim normally a small excess but a much cheaper option
other possibility to check could be covered on his home insurance or some people have insurance through their bank normally Lloyds TSB.

it bin time i think! i have the same phone and unless you have insurance on it then there is nothing you can do! bless your fella bet hes gutted xx
