I doubt it's a solution. May be a solvent.

You need to clean out the water reservoir. The easiest way is to fill it with vinegar and let it sit overnight. In the morning, plug in the iron and let it heat up to the warmest steam setting. Use the spray and shot of steam settings to get the gunk out. Turn off the iron, let it cool, then fill the tank with water and repeat to rinse out the vinegar.

You can avoid this problem in the future by using distilled water in your iron's water reservoir.

It is caused by minerals in your water. You may have to buy water to use in your iron. Or try filtering your water for the iron if you use a Brita or something like that.

As others have suggested white vinegar will clean it.

You may have hard water and are having mineral deposits inside the steam iron, mainly calcium. If you use distilled water it will be eliminated for the most part.

Fill it with white vinegar and let it sit for a day, then empty it and rinse it with about three fills of water.
Afterwards buy distilled water and use it instead of tap water, and that will never happen again.

Are you using tap water to fill the iron? If so, there's your culprit. It could be mineral deposits. Try using distilled water instead.

It might be rust from keeping water in it after you've finished using it. Try dumping out the water when you've finished ironing.
