For boys: Avoid any names that end in -den. Examples are Aiden, Hayden, Jaden. These names are all super popular right now.

For girls: Avoid Nevaeh (popular and stupid), most names ending in -lyn. Examples are Caitlyn, Madelyn, Brooklyn. I could list tons more, the adding a -lyn to random names is getting very popular right now. And avoid boy names on a girl, this is a trend that will end as quickly as it began and will leave all those young girls with incredibly dated names.

I recommend using the SSA name popularity website to see how names ranked in popularity for the last couple years. If she doesn't want her child sharing his or her name with others in their class, she should steer away from names in the top 50 or so. And remember, there are different spelling people are making up that aren't counted together when the SSA does these polls. For example, Caitlin, Katelyn, Catlynn, and all it's variations are counted separately, so the actual popularity of the name is much higher than the ranking will show.

Good luck!!

Does she know if its a boy or a girl? Take a look through your family tree. There are a lot of older names that are no longer in common use. She might find something really lovely that she likes alot!

She may not like common names but think of the kid when they are older, especially teenagers. BE CAREFUL! You may be committing the baby to a lifetime of agony just because you want a weird name.
