Well it's upto you, there's no unwritten rule it's all down to you really. If it's a personal resolution set by yourself for instance, then there would be no time limit unless you set one for yourself. If it was a resolution/goal for a company/business then there may be.

ha ha i always do a new years resolution but wow i forget about it in a week also i forget what the resolution i did .. so maybe this years i better do 1 seriously :~)
