how come you have to handwash some fabrics and then lay them flat to dry? does it really make a difference? And how come it says to hand wash acrylic? The acrylic sweater i have is pretty thick and it seems like it doesn't really need to be handwashed.

have you seen what heppens to some fabrics when you don't hand wash them? acrylic and some wools tend to pill really bad. but if you don't minc the look, then sure you can wash them in the washer on gentle cycle. I know I wash most of my sweaters in the washer, I just put them inside a pillow case and then lay them flat to dry. you don't want to put sweaters in the dryer because the fabric most of them are made out of shrinks with the heat of the dryer.

I think with many garments the manufacturers do that just to be careful, but sometimes it is important to pay attention. Most things that can be washed by hand can be washed on the gentle cycle of a washing machine. Drying flat does make a difference though. Drying in a dryer can shrink many things, especially sweaters.

Clothing makers only need to put one washing instruction on the article of clothing. They could tell you to hand wash a t-shirt. I have machine washed acrylic sweaters. If their are decorations on it I would hand wash it.

I guess sometimes it does depend on the fabric. They prefer handwash because if you dont it could be harder on the fabric. You could prob also use a gentler cycle.
