Why are designer shoes and purses so expensive? also what are your favorite brands?

Designer items are expensive because, more than anything, they are selling the name. Both Zales and Tiffany's could make the same diamond ring, same material, same quality diamond, but Tiffany's will cost more because of that name.

Designer products all have the best quality and materials.This isn't always true because the prices are all about the brand. I mean really a dooney and Bourke has way better quality than some cheap purse that you can buy at Walmart. Shoes are another thing. Some shoes are more comfortable so they cost more and others are just expensive because a logo is on them.Uggs Australia have high prices because they are made of natural sheep fur/wool so they are expensive. Another thing is that some companies hand craft the details on the products.

My favorite brands are Coach, Tiffany, Bebe,Juicy Couture and Uggs Australia.

They're so expensive because the big expensive design companies that make them have high overheads and monstrous salaries so they have huge markups on their manufacturing costs. They know lots of people are status conscious will pay for the status of their name because everyone knows how expensive their product is.

I could care less about designer names. I like Aerosoles shoes because they are comfy and well made and Ugg boots (the leather, not the suede) because they are comfortable and last forever. I like functional, durable handbags that are not flashy, no extra straps, flaps, zips or embellishments. I buy only black or brown shoes/bags/belts so they all match and I get quality, well made products that are durable and lasting.

I have one very cute small red Gucci handbag that I bought brand new at a yard sale for $5. NOT a knock off, it was given to the sellers daughter as a gift from a short time boyfriend (ref "Le Divorce") and I researched it on the net. I use it as part of a display when I sell my handmade jewelry - if I ever have occasion to actually use it as a handbag, I'll probably forget to do so.

Designer bags are expensive because of the quality of material/fabric they use to choose. Also, you are paying for the workmanship and the effort it takes to design these products. For example, you may see 2 pairs of high heel boots. 1 pair is Coach and the other pair is Fendi. They are both red and are made out of leather. Fendi's red boots cost $1,200 and Coach's red boots cost $400. The popularity of the designer also affects the price. It took more effort, building and cost to design the fendi shoe than the coach shoe.

it's expensive because they're brand name and they know how to sell it well especially to snobby rich kids who want to feel like they're better than everyone else. having designer items really shouldn't matter but unfortunately it does mostly in popularity. everyone may say that it's better quality but a lot of the time that's not true at all. designer company's will do there best to make you think it's true because they are all in for the money.

It's not the shoe that is expensive. you're buying a brand when you buy designer shoes. the quality of materials may be better, than say wal mart shoes. but yeah, most people pay the big bucks for the brand. i don't think i have any fav bands....but then again, i haven't really gone shopping for that one pair of super expensive shoes. hope i helped:)

The quality and the unique styles contribute to the cost.
I like several ,I like Chanel for handbags but don't like the shoes.
I also like Gucci for shoes and don't like their handbags..
I don't like Prada,both shoes and bags are very boring in their repetitive style.The quality of the leathers and fastenings are of a far superior materials.The workmanship,the stitching everything is hand made and it shows in the craftsmanship.
I like the more classic brands and seem always attracted to them.Some bags from theses designers I have had for 25 years and they look brand new.Great style is classic.

Shirts i could could say H & M, CHarlotte Russe, or Aeropostale. denims are definately Silver denims. clothing...i don't have a time-honored. something lovable somewhat. i like the strappy summer season ones. upload-ons i purchase everywhere and everywhere. Sweaters are Hollister, H & M, abercrombie, and aeropostale footwear are definately NIkes for exercising, i like any turn flops or clunky sandals. Sneeakers............. Sketchers trainer, Aero, previous military, Lousi Vuitton purses. i like all of the types and colours those manufacturers could furnish. they're all additionally extreme high quality and final a protracted time.

It's expensive because people are willing to pay for the brand name. Same reason why the brand name can charge so much, because people are willing to pay that much.
