Is it true that if you take a certain dance that your toe nails will com off? One of my friends took ballet and two of her toe nails came off.

My toenails never fell off from dancing on pointe, but everybody's feet are different. Mine happen to be well-suited for pointe shoes because my toes are pretty even across the top. The only problems I ever had were blisters on the top of my toes, but that was easily avoided by taping my toes with first-aid tape.

I knew plenty of dancers who had all kinds of problems though, including one girl who got a blood blister underneath her big toenail. They had to drill a hole in the nail to drain it. Another girl dated a guy for about 5 months before she let him see her feet.

So far as I know, the only problems people ever had like that were with pointe shoes. If your friend lost 2 toenails just from regular ballet and not pointe, its likely something else happened.

Toe nails can crack and come off from wearing shoes that are very tight in the toes. It doesn't even have to be ballet (en pointe) it can be regular shoes. It often happens in ballet because dancer's weight exert a lot of pressure on the toes exactly where toenails are. Depending on the shape of her toes and toenails and shoes and also how well she takes care of her feet toenails sometimes get damaged.

I have studied ballet and taught it for most of my life. I started pointe when I was ten years old and for several years, there was not a time that I had all of my toe nails in tact at the same time. Pointe hurts at first, but eventually you get used to it. Yes, your toenails will turn different colors and fall off, but this is normal for ballet dancers. I wouldn't worry about it.

yeah it's true. Certain dances like ballet make you stand on the tips of your toes, and the trauma that the toes go through make the toes nails fall off.

if you go on pointe too early that's wen u get problems at my dance school we spend a whole year before strengthing our feet for pointe and only if the teacher thinks you r reasdy will she put u on pointe this helps stop it so your feet won't go a funny shape. If you start earlier thats wen you get older and your feet go funny

thats probably just due to some moves she made on her tiptoes. dancing does not damage your nails if ur doing it right. lol just be careful of guys who suck stepping on ur toes

Sometimes in pointe it can blister you feet and bruise your toenails and I've even heard of times when they have fallen off.

its true they can come off, pointe is probably the most likely to do so. but their not just going to fall off, the would have to be badly bruised up or worn down.

its not that it will undoubtably happen no matter what and will always happen. and i assume you are talking about pointe.

for some dancers, yes this can happen if they don't take proper care of their feet and for some people it just happens.

it personally has not happened to me and ive done pointe for around 3 years now.
