James "Thunder" Early was inspired by both Marvin Gaye and James Brown. Eddie Murphy did a great job with the part, even singing all the songs by himself. Definitely up for an Oscar!

I saw the cast of Dream Girls on Oprah a few weeks ago. Eddie's character is a cross between James Brown and Little Richard.

yes he is a real life person, I believe so..and I think they should have asked someone else to play diana ross, beyonce is beautiful but she looks nothing like her!
