Well, I'm assuming that you don't know how to build a computer, so here's some prices....
DON'T BUY A DELL, you'll basically be ripped off.....
My system is a Pentium D 930 3ghz dual core
2gb corsair ddr2
2x 250gb sataII seagate HD's
gigabyte motherboard
16x lightscribe dvdrw
7900GT video
m-audio 24/96 recording sound card
beautiful case
all costed me around $700
Now buy a dell, and you'll get about half that speed, for over $800
For around $800 dollars, your looking at system with these specs
Core 2 Duo 1.8ghz 6300
1GB MINIMUM DDR2 RAM
250GB SATA Hard drive
7600GT Video card or equivlent
decent motherboard
16x DVDRW
Plain case
400w power supply.
which isn't a bad system really...
you might want to try http://www.newegg.com or http://www.tigerdirect.com for systems

Dell has some cool customizable systems starting at only $400. A nice one with 1 GB of memory and Media center edition was only $600. You may also want to look at the Mac Mini starting at $599.

Go for an HP Media Center unit.
Example :

You will be incredibly satisfied. Buy it from Bestbuy or Circuit City so that you can try it for at least 2 weeks & return it for a full refund if not happy.
Do not get duped into purchasing a Celeron based unit ... they are cheap for a reason.

newegg is a very reliable site, I always order everything from them...it's always on time and I never have problems. That computer has good rating, its about 700 after all taxes...I didn't know if you'd need a monitor, but if you do...just look around newegg.

I personally would have someone build you a machine. For 800, you can have someone build an excellent machine with premium hardware.

Get a Dell. They are perfect for that and should have enough memory for your needs.
