I'm pregnant and went to get check up.They had to take blood ,first the Medical assistant stuck the needle in without knowing where the vain was,then took it out and tried to fid another vain.Then she brouht another coehead like herself in and they both were looking for a vain in my arm.When I gave them the idea to take it out of my hand they couldn't do it either,onedidn't know how and the other couldn't tell which vain to take it out of.They became insulted when I volunteered to go to a lab and have someone there do it(I'm supposed to let them stick me until they find a vein?).I no longer felt comfy in there care.The R.N. finally came along and didn't want to do it so she gave me a lab sheet.She suggested if I'd drank more water ,they wouldv'e been able to do it!(Blamed THEIR incompetence on me!).Then told me she hopes she doesn't get me in labor because she'd have hell hooking me to an I.V.(now I feel safe!)..............This was an awful experience!should I switch offices?

My doctor is great but his"nurses"(which are really just badly trained medical assistants)are awful and I dont feel safe in their care.

wow, that's horrible! file a complaint with the office and tell your doctor about it. if it were me i would probably switch offices.

You should definitely talk to your doctor about this - if the doctor is any good he'll want to know (or maybe he already has his suspicions but needs some more evidence before having a Severe Talk with them). Try preparing to talk to him along the following lines:
1. What happened - just the facts. ma'am.
2. How you felt about it and how you feel now.
3. Ask him for his suggestions.
In other words, separate the 'what happened' from 'how I felt about it,' although you must communicate both.
You owe this to your doctor whether or not you switch offices. You may nonetheless decide to switch offices because the chances are that you'll be unnecessarily tense during your labour, and I know from personal experience that nurses have a way of writing up their notes that cast the patient in a bad light and omit their own part in the process.
Then if you do choose to go to a new office, say - in neutral terms, keep the anger out of it - that in the past some nurses have had difficulty finding a vein and so they might like to bear that in mind.

OMg, that is awful. 'I hope I don't get you in labour"! Geez. Your veins were probably collapsed. Which is not their fault. But they should have explained this and not blamed you and said that ! If these girls work in the doctors office, I don't think they are hired at the hospital, much less on the maternity ward. Your nurses for labour will be hired on the ER or Maternity ward. Doctors office nurses are different... I am surprised they even had a RN hired at the office, usual they just have sectretaries... I would find out.. and go to a different hospital when in labour and see if your doctor goes there or not.. Remember the nurese are there the whole time and the doctor comes for the last 2 mintures... I wouldn't want her to be my labour nurse!

do not ignore, you at the instant are not ony a affected person, yet a customer. in case you do not purely like the provider, depart. Lot's of medical doctors have undesirable attitudes, quite often from not having adequate time to do their jobs. For some this is purely an entire loss of empathy. You get somewhat jaded treating human beings after a whilst. besides, get your a reimbursement, and flow see somebody else. Being a jerk isn't a criminal offense, sorry.

Oh my you need to find another obgyn or let you doc know what happend and how you felt about the situation. I would also bring up to you doc what the one nurse had said to you about how she hopes she dont get you in labor about the I.v. . You have all the right to be worried . I would go back a couple more times and if you still feel this way about the office I would switch docs.

Don't make decisions out of fear. Understandably you don't feel safe, how far along are you? How many times have you seen this dr? When you are in labor, it will be the nurses at the hospital taking all the care of you, your dr will only be there during delivery, maybe once during labor and once after. If you are going to a hospital make sure you feel comfortable there. That's where the magic happens, and really, the dr just takes the baby out and sews you up.

I would switch doctors immediately. You need to be able to trust not only your doctor but his staff too.
Why in the world were the medical assistants trying to draw your blood in the first place?
Every doctor that I have ever seen has ALWAYS sent me to the lab to have it done, even the small town clinics.
The only time I have ever had a doctor or a nurse stick me with a needle has been routine shots or to get an IV in, never to draw blood.

If you don't feel safe in their care you won't feel safe even with your doctor. I would suggest talking to your doctor about the problem you had and if there is not a way to fix the situation get a new doctor. There a plenty of great doctors out there that have great nurses too. If you do switch doctors interview them and ask if you can meet their nurse.

Talk to your doctor about the experience and if it doesn't change on the next visit, switch offices or doctors. If you do not feel safe now, you may not feel safe when you go into labor and have to deal with the incompetency again. Good luck!

If you do not feel safe you need to switch. Not feeling safe during labour will inhibit labour and cause complications. That is assuming that they do not do something to harm you or the baby, which it sounds like they may do.
I would discuss this with your doctor, explain your concerns and ask for a referral as there is no way this problem can be dealt with before you give birth.

Well, you can always get another doctor, but what happens if the nurses there also have similiar problems? Maybe it was just a bad day for finding a good vein on you, maybe you're one of those people that are just difficult in general to get a good line in (it happens). If the nurses were that incompetent, surely they would've had many complaints and not have a job there any more....
