Most of us have seen graphic representations of which areas of the brain are active during different types of activities, different kinds of emotions, of sensations, of waking and sleep, of thinking and so on. These kinds of test are quite recent. The results pretty much show that at one time or another, any of the areas of the brain are active. We use the whole thing, not just a little bit of it.

BS Biology here. That probably doesn't qualify me as a scientist, but I wanted to be one once.
You use 100% of your brain.

1. Brains are very expensive in terms of nutrients and energy. If you weren't using it, you wouldn't have it.
2. Think about all the "doctor" shows on TV in which brain surgery is being portrayed. Never once will you hear someone say "he'll be fine because we're cutting into the 90% of his brain that he's not using anyway."
3. There are various means of scanning the brain. The ones that show brain activity will show activity all over the brain.

well look at this way. if you are ever in the unhappy position of needing a brain transplant and your surgeon offers you the choice of a man's brain or a woman's brain to replace your own, be sure to opt for that man's brain and rest secure in the knowledge that 90% of it won't have ever been used by its previous owner.
