I grew up with both my mom and dad in the house and I turned out to be gay. It makes you wonder If only gay people raised gay children then why am I and millions of others gay that would mean our parents were gay as well.

You are right. People that believe gay parents will raise only gay children are ignorant. Straight parents have just as much of a chance at having a gay child as gay parents do. Homosexuality isn't something that a child "learns" from their parents, it is determined ahead of time by a gene that is inherited. Scientists have discovered numerous reasons why people are born with their orientation and that it isn't something that is "learned" or chosen. So basically, a child that is adopted by a gay couple will already have their sexual orientation (inherited from their birth mother; and when I say inherited I mean the gene, not the orientation), Many scientists also believe that orientation is determined 3 months before birth. Ignore ignorant people. A child's sexual orientation has nothing to do with the orientation of their parents.

It's that old Nature vs Nurture argument.

The Nurture people believe that because children learn behaviors from people in their environment, that if their parents are gay than the kids will turn out gay.

The Nature people believe that you are born with inherent characteristics that determine what type of person you will become, regardless of how you are raised (for instance, a natural born killer type raised by Mother Teresa would still be a natural born killer).

I'm inclined to think that it's a combination of both factors with a little random chance thrown in that is what really makes you who you are. That the odds of gay parents raising a gay child are no greater or less than the chance of their raising a straight child.

Even if they intentionally worked hard to raise a child who would be gay, you gotta remember that children tend to be contrary and end up not being like their parents anyway. Like old hippie parents from the sixties ending up with young republican children who voted for Reagan. Seen that happen.

I think alot of people believe in the notion that homosexuality is learned behavior (or a choice). So if a child sees his/her gay parents interactiong w/ each other (2 dads or 2 moms) then that kid will grow up to emulate the behaviour that he/she witnessed throughout childhood. If that were true (and possible) and all it takes to shape our sexuality...then why do straight couples produce so many gays? The argument against gay parents just doesn't make any sense (another attempt by the religiuos right to discriminate against others who are different).

I rather hope that most don't or the world is even fuller of ignorance than I had imagined.

Only a proportion of the children raised by gay parents will be gay themselves. These will be the ones who would've been gay had they been raised by straight parents.

No the only difference between het raised and gay raised children will be their level of acceptance of the gay lifestyle.

That doesn't mean they'll practise it!

hi!! :o) i replaced into in my 1930s before it dawned on me that my mothers and fathers in all possibility had intercourse. lol so as long as a gay couple comprehend a new child's actual to no longer be attentive to what they are doing sexually - i do no longer see the way it ought to count what their sexual orientation is. i think of a few human beings have this theory that if a new child is raised by employing gay mothers and fathers that they are going to be uncovered to one intercourse orgy after yet another. and that's a disgrace. For I hardly think of it extremely is the case. [Or that it may be the case] maximum gay couples - like maximum unmarried immediately mothers and fathers - get exhilaration from the magnitude of having a favorable opposite intercourse impression of their youngster's existence. [opposite to the mothers and fathers intercourse] Little girls and boys choose healthful place fashions from the two sexes. yet that each and every person reported - what extremely concerns maximum of all in a new child's existence is that he/she is conscious of that they are enjoyed. And regrettably - being raised by employing immediately mothers and fathers isn't any assure of that. [As all of us be attentive to] Craig!! :o)

Because some people are ignorant, and believe they have to find some type of justification for the "abberation" they see homosexuality to be. Some people simply can't fathom the idea that there's simply not enough love for others in this world, and we should all be happy with love where we find it.

You forgot to realize this! All of us "gay people" were raised by "straight" people. So, I guess that means that being raised by straight people makes you GAY!

Simple, children emulate their parents. Psych 101.

They see what the main caregiver does and they imitate it.

Just like a husband who beats a wife the male child will beat his woman, they see mom and dad kiss, it backs up the instinct to be with the opposit sex.

Now you see why, it is basic psychology

Both my parents are straight as well as my brother and sister, so I feel the same way you do about the whole thing. It's just another excuse to rag on people in the GLBT community.
