I think that people should know the facts about the death penalty. Although we must not excuse butal acts and depraved individuals, revenge should not replace common sense based on the facts.

Here are some things to consider.

The death penalty is not a deterrant. States with the death penalty have higher homicide rates than states that do not.

It is human nature to make mistakes. Over 120 people on death row have been released with evidence that they are innocent, many after many years on death row. The most common cause of these wrongful convictions is erroneous eyewitness testimony.

Life without parole is on the books in more and more states. It means what it says and it is no picnic. Imaginge spending 23 of 24 hours locked in a tiny cell, for the rest of your life.

The death penalty costs way more than life without parole. The extra cost has a lot to do with what takes place before any appeals.

Last of all, the death sentences can be very hard on the families of murder victims. Their pain is stirred up every time there is a new legal proceeding. The process takes a long time because most of us do not want to see an innocent person executed, in our name. You should see the testimony of some of these family members who oppose a death sentence because it makes their pain worse. Very powerful stuff.

I believe that if a person is found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt for any heinous crime that imposes the death penalty, that sentence should be carried out swiftly within a period time. There are too many murderers on death row still killing while within the prison system and tying up the system with countless appeals.

yes i agree with the death penalty, and no i am not a criminal who deserves to die. it should be an eye for an eye. you kill, you get killed. and the same for all the other crimes.forget the 3 strikes rule, it should be 1 or 2 strikes and you get 25 years for harsh crimes. the laws are way too lenient.

I say an eye for an eye. Everyone convicted of 1st or 2nd degree murder should be put to death. They have absolutely no place in society for they will just kill again when they get out!

The ones whom condemn criminals are not criminals, they are carrying out justice! The bible has nothing to do with justice, church and state are separate!

The death penalty is a great primary deterant but not a secondary deterant. I think my opinion would vary...if a loved one was convicted or if a loved one was murdered.

That's a tricky situation. Not everyone on death row deserves to be there. But if they have confessed to a heinous crime, I say why waste good electricity and good appeal processes. Let's get rid of the electric chair and get an electric couch. 3 for 1.

I believe in the death penalty because I think it is a kinder punishment than life in prison. But less face it, they both suck.

Learnings of the Bible? God told the Israelites to completely desimate entire cities!!!! The bible tells nothing of don't kill criminals. I say if you don't care about other's lives then we shouldn't care about yours. The slower the death the better. LET THEM FRY!!!

I think if you did the crime you should do the time and if that means the death penalty than so be it.
