1949 to 1956 approximately. Their logic was built with thermionic valves (= vacuum tubes). Their memory was built with either cathode ray tube screens, mercury delay lines, nickel wire delay lines, or in a few cases magnetic drums.

There is a working example of a Ferranti "Pegasus" first-generation computer in the Science Museum in South Kensington, London. Its memory is made of nickel wire delay lines.

in about 1990 i live in silicon valley and there are a lot of computers here if you do not already live here you should come one day to see the museum of computer history if your curious about computers...i think its awesome
