I'm 13 yrs. old and if there is anthing my friends give me credit for, I can come up with some really scary stories. I've scared a lot of people. I have some really good stories that, in my head, or when I tell them to people, make a really good book. I dictate stories to people, and some of the stories are actually in chapters and I tell them as if I were reading a book. But, when I try to write them, I can't. The words don't come out right on paper. The story is never as good. What I don't understand is that I have a really good grade in English when it comes to writing. I allways get some of the top scores on my essays. So why can't I write one of my stories on paper. Eny suggestions.
(Please don't give me a bunch of crap on my spelling, I allready know that I can't spell)

Writing suspence is always a challenge. When telling it, you have the chance to use your voice and make the listeners have more emotion. Getting that same voice in writing requires right amounts of detail, most likely meaning more than when telling it. As an aspirering writer myself, I can say that the best thing to do is practice. Here are a few suggestions that may help a little.

Use a tape reccorder when telling them so you can try and create the same mood.

Try doing emotional starters for practice. Write a few paragraphs trying the get the reader to have a certain emotion. Give it to a friend or parent and ask how they felt without telling them what you were after.

Read a book that scared you when you first read it. Go over it and figure out how that author got you spooked.

Hope I was some help!

That goes the same with me! I get a lot of good stories and I cant write them when i dream about them or imagine them within my head! i Too get the third most top score on my writing essays in LA! The Problem is you need a solid plot-line! Scary Stories are the hardest to write down, because when you tell them your face explains it all! So when the listen they only hear a few words and see the terror on your face! That means you are great at acting, by the way! you need to find more sophisticated words that sound scarier! Like instead of scared of popped you need to go into a thesaurus and find other words that are more descriptive! I hope that helps!

The answer is actually quite simple. You can do one of two things. Either dictate your story to someone that can type it quickly, or purchase a recorder that you can talk into that you can play back so that you can put it to text. Those are probably the most efficient ways to solve the problem. Voice recognition software is not only expensive, but comes with the tedious task of "training it" and then a 90% error rate once trained.

Learning to write well takes a lot of time and effort. It isn't easy, but it is worth it. Why don't you try joining a writing club online? When you post a new story, the other members read it and provide constructive criticism.

Other than that, just keep on writing. You will get better. Good luck!

Just relax before you write; imagine you are writing something down for a friend to read. Just like you'd tell them :)

Also, in writing it takes some getting use to describing a scene and every little movement, all writers go through that, so it's ok :) Just write down short stories to practice describing scenes in the best and scariest way, the practice will pay back with people enjoying your stories even more! :)

Good luck! ^__^

I agree with the above idea of dictating to someone... or recording your stories.
They make small digital recorders that fit into the paml of your hand and are not very expensive, you could carry it with you when you feel a story may take place with your friends... and just press record when you begin and then type it later at home.

Plus, none of your friends would have to know you were recording so the pressure for a good story would be less.

It really helps to practice putting your thoughts into writing. Reading stories written by others helps a lot too.

They have software that you can install on your computer that you dictate to and it "types" what you're saying. You could try that. I don't know how much it costs, though. It comes with a little headpiece with a microphone and earpiece, like for a phone.

And there is a little button for spell check on Y!A
