Mercury Hg is a good choice, lots of interesting history, you can make a great poster with the mad hatter and Alice on it and explain why that mercury was responsible for driving the hatters mad. Your chem teacher might not even know this one.

Carbon is the most important biologically; if you choose that one, you can explain why. You would get an A on your report.

Silicon is interesting in that it's right under Carbon in the periodic table -- but it's not suitable for biological importance. You can explain why. You might get an A on your report.
