It is Paraffin and is a chemical alkane product like plastic. Just mix the right chemicals at a processing plant, and voila! Candle Wax!

When cattle are slaughtered, the fat fom the carcass goes through a cooking process and is melted down to form what is known as Tallow. This is taken away to the candle makers and the rest you know.

my guess it is man made. and there is real wax , which are bees wax candles, the beige ones that cost a little more.
