What do u mean u werent protected? If anyone hits u up the rear then their insurance pays, and the guy who said you lose your NCD is wrong, u only lose it if u were at fault or if the person who damaged ur car wasnt insured.
In the UK there is a place you can turn to if you suffer a loss to your car from an uninsured motorist, you can find out about them by contacting your local CAB.
Good luck

if he hit you from behind it's his fault-full stop, however you will still lose your no-claims unless they are protected. You will know for next time now, pay a little bit more and keep your no-claims.
