I am myself not a citizen of any of the three countries mentioned above but I surely love each of them very much. Every now and then the protestors in Middle East burn-humiliate the flags of these 3 nations. What is more hurting that nothing is done in retaliation?
A flag is not just a piece of cloth; it is much more than that. It is the symbol, soul and pride of the whole country. Any insult done to the flag, is an insult to each and every citizen of the state. So one must not let dismiss it as silly but do something to stop this. Remember the very pride of these powerful nations is at stake and we cannot allow anyone to play with it.

Hmmmm. burning of the Union Flag, could that be classed as High Treason, if so only one punishment open, as the death penalty is still available for that crime in the UK.

An eye for an eye makes the world blind. So said Gandhi.Revenge and retribution do not necessarily make the world a better and a safer place.Flags are merely just symbols.....when one cannot attack the countries concerned one attacks its flag.If one is patriotic, then it does hurt.It might surprise you to know that people have burnt the American flag on stage in America and no action has been taken because an alternative viewpoint is one of the fundamental rights of an American citizen. Its real democracy in practice. We needn't always agree with what our state is doing and moreover states are not necessarily always doing the right thing. Flags are symbols to rally around, symbols which mobilize the collective group and as such they have always been tools in the hands of those in power. The borders of countries change as do their flags and you do not have to look far behind in history to know that.New countries are formed out of old ones...look at the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia,Ethiopia,Pakistan, even Britain, to name just a few.All have broken and given birth to new nations with new flags. Its called the march of history and all countries have to submit to it eventually.

Burning a flag is a meaningless action. It does not do anyone any harm, except the person who burns it. I cannot speak for any other country, but here in the UK there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding even the ownership of the Union Flag (Union Jack). Although it is seen as the national flag of UK its history is more bound up with the Union and the British Army. Indeed, there are some in UK who refer to it as 'The Butcher's Apron'.

For most people in UK, the most important flags are their home nation flags, Scotland, Wales and England, also you can add Ulster if you wish. Burn any of these and you die, especially at a football match.

Let em burn the flag, the pictures, whatever. I dont watch them and I would not record them to broadcast it on TV to sell you an iPod from the commercial.
Over the years I have seen Protestors, some are truly protesting, others are waiting for cameras because they are being paid to make a statement. I cannot be a good Capatalist and get angry at a person for makeing $ for basically doing nothing.
I as everyone choose to become angry, anger is a choice, a decision, I choose not to allow the protesters to get my attention or to become en-angered at there acting. You want to worship a billy goat with a hot babes body as a God, kewl.
Your God says you must not watch TV on Thursday Nights, kewl.
Your God says love me or I behead you, not kewl.
These are choices that we make. I choose peace and life. I hope I get it.

Not only Scottish, but illiterate too. The Israelis have a right to be there and defend themselves. They take a great deal of trouble to avoid civilian casualties, but Hezbollah's tactic of using Lebanese civilians as human barricades makes it almost impossible. Their deliberate targeting of civilians in Haifa and Ashkalon seems to pass the human rights hypocrites by without so much as a raised eyebrow. The real criminals here are Iran as Hezbollah is just the Iranian army in disguise. As for the burning of flags, it is just crude and vulgar propaganda and should not be given the oxygen of publicity by the western media

A flag is just a symbol; its not worth starting a punch up because of damage to a symbol by some twits halfway across the world.

I do not like to see the flag of any nation desecrated, but this is hardly an excuse to go to war or kill people. Public desecration of any flag should be a crime and prosecuted regardless of the nationality involved because it is improper public behavior.

I don't think we should take it seriously, we would become like them. They are far too extreme and I think if anybody burnt their flags, they'd go on a rampage. What's the use in that? It doesn't insult me because they have a problem with our government. It insults me that our governments think they can go invading other lands in order to liberate them. If our governments just let them get on with it then we wouldn't have to even think about extremists and terrorists.

Give us a break. They're just bits of cloth.

There's enough trouble in this world already without getting into a state about bloody flags.

And anyone who wants to play with the pride of my nation is very welcome, so long as no one gets hurt in the process.

Instead of avenging flag burning why not start to address the reasons why people resort to such tactics and hate America/UK so much. Also, why the fascination with flags? Why is virtually every street in the US festooned with hundreds of flags?
