Roger Waters was spat at by a fan in Canada during a show. He then went all reclusive (ala Syd) and decided to build a Wall on stage seperating the band from the audience.

He looked back upon his own rocknroll life and that of Syds. The wartime theme is due to his own father and the drugged up rockstar is of that of him and Syd. The scene in the film during Comfortably Numb is Syd and Roger remembers the time he was that far gone during a tour (America?).

One of the greatest albums ever and just a genius piece of work.

It's just... Pink Floyd. That's about the only way I can put it.

Gerald Scarfe was a genius, though, albeit he probably had a few bats in the belfry. Good animations.
