DDR SDRAM or double-data-rate synchronous dynamic random access memory is a type of memory integrated circuit used in computers.
If you are buying a computer, you will want to go with the newer ddr2 since it is faster, and get the highest speed memory you can since it will speed your computer up greatly.
You can read more about the memory at:

DDR stands for Double Data Rate, which is twice as fast a memory as SDRAM. DDR2-RAM is twice as fast as DDR memory and 4 times as fast as Single Data RAM memory.

DDR is the RAM Memory of your computer.
you don't have to care about that....
it's usually DDR or Dual Layer.
which means 512MB or 1GB or 2GB size.

remember, its not the hard drive.

buy a Dual Layer one, with 2GB memory.
because you will probably get an upgrade to windows
vista when it comes out.

vista requires that your computer has the best options,
like a good processor, 2GB ram, etc.

i hope this helps you.

DDR or DDR2 denotes the type of chips used on the RAM modules for your PC. DDR2 is better because of higher clock speeds, but make sure the motherboard and CPU can handle it, because overclocked RAM can cause issues with many applications.
