I am glad I am not the only one this has happened too. You can retract a bid on ebay - there is a help section on this - you did not say if the auction had ended or not as ebay will make autobids upto your max of 500.00. The seller would not know how much you had bid for this item anyway and you run the risk of having rogue bids bumping you upto your maximum.
If the auction is still active - sign in on ebay and go to the HELP at the top of the screen and select item number 3 How do I cancel/retract a bid? and follow the onscreen instructions - you will have to say why you retracted it does get displayed next to your feedback fro 6 months but not the reason why - I did this and I still got 100% feedback so things can work. Do this asap and the best of luck to you

Don't worry, you can retract your bid - ask the seller. The worst thing that will happen is that you will win the bid, but it won't be for £500, it will be £5 or so more than the last bidder's price. The amount you bid is only your highest max, not the actual amount you will end up paying.

Bid a lower amount as soon as possible (5 or 50 pounds), you will get a message saying you can't (just for confirmation) and contact ebay saying it was an accidental bid. You have to fill out a form within 24 hours.

Also check ebay help section on cancelling a bid. ^.^

Contact the seller and explain the problem to them, I once made the mistake of bidding 1500 GBP on a T-shirt from a seller in the UK. The seller canceled the auction. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

you only have to pay the winning bid,if the game was say going at 8 pounds before your daughter bid depending on how many days are left it shouldnt go for much more.but if theres a lot of days left on it and youve told the guy he could turn criminal and get one of his friends to bid against you all the way to 499 quid. but dont worry you have emailed the guy ,who will be gutted because thats what it does to people, but you have told him the truth he wont believe you or like you for it but offer him the buy it now.

Depending on the seller, you may have to pay, or your account could be blocked. Most sellers will understand. Contact Ebay Customer Service and ask them to be sure. And maybe CLOSE THE LAPTOP before you walk away from it.

Explain to the seller what happened i'm sure he will see the funny side and he will agree to mutual withdrawal from the sale.

Otherwise the worst that will happen is negative feedback an unpaid item strike.

You should not be out off pocket you have to go through more stages before you have to pay, contact the seller through e-bay and explain what happened and say your sorry so they don't give you a bad report.

chill. this will be the maximum you bid for item! it won't be how much you pay! you will pay only for the highest bid, say bid before is £8.00. if the auction ends on £8.00, then you'll pay the next installment up, which is probably in 15-20p's. so chill.
