It depends on what kind of rider you are, what kind of riding you do, and your level of expertise. You sound like a relative newcomer to the sport, so I'd reccomend any bike that you feel comfortable on. Choose a bike based on how well you can hold it up, it's center of gravity (lower is better, especially at first), and how well it handles at the speeds you will use it at most.
All that having been said, I think Honda and Yamaha build very nice bikes, but if you want to go fast, Kawasaki seems to be the one. I've owned several Hondas, yamahas, and a suzuki. I rode an old Indian for years and riden many of my friends' Harleys. My brother in law owns a Victory dealership, so I've ridden them too.
Of all the bikes I've ever ridden, my favorite is the '81 kawasaki KZ1000 police special I'm riding now. I rescued it from the scrapper, and rebuilt it. It's got GOBS more power than I'll ever use, and is very comfortable too. But if you haven't a 36" inseam, you'll never hold the thing up at a light.

It's just not possible to come up with the ONE correct answer for this. It has to be based on some criteria.

Personally I believe that the differences between the main 4 (Kawi, Suzuki, Yamaha and Honda) are negligible. One may excel in one area and another in another area.

If you're trying to decide which bike to buy, start with choosing the one that fits you best physically, and which is suited to the type of riding you want to do. Then pick out the one whose looks most appeal to you.

And then start doing your research.

That said, I'm a Kawi girl, although I also have a Honda.

Yamaha always makes the best Motorbikes try the YZ250 or whatever suits you I recommend the YZ models though. Suzuki doesnt make a very good 4 stroke engine & the bikes are crap. Honda is also a great bike as well if your not satisfied with either the Yami or the Suzi

It really depends on who you ask... as well as what type of bike you are talking about.
As far as dirt bikes go, I like Honda. IMO Honda makes the most reliable products with excellent fit and finish.
If your looking for a fast street bike. Suzuki usually takes the prize in that category. Just do some research on the type of bike you are interested in.

That just opened up the can of worms again.
You will get as many answers are there are bikes made.

My personal opinion is
1. Honda
2. Yamaha
3. Suzuki
4. Harley
5. Kawasaki

Now, this will bring other lists from other people who ride Harleys and their bike brand will be first. It all depends on what you like.
There is so much competition in that market, that anything that doesn't measure up, quickly falls by the wayside

Depends on what you want to do. in all honesty with all the japs stuff, it is much and much the same for 99% of riders. What you need to do, is have a look at stuff from all the manufacturers, then after picking 1 or 2 that you love, talk to people that personally own them and ask for their advice.

That depends on who you ask....... The question you need to ask yourself is what do you want in a bike? After you figure that out read reviews on each make and decide for yourself what is the best for your riding style.
