my machine shakes like crazy on wash cycle and spin cycle, doesn't matter how much is in there. Does this sound like an expensive problem

It's most likely one of two things. Either the load is unbalanced or the washer is. If you have only a few items in there or if you have alot of big items (like towels) if everything ends up shifted to one side it will cause the washer to make an awful noice and move about a small amount. This is easy to fix simply open the lid and readjust the load and then resume the cycle. The other problem could be that the washer itself is off balance. To check that simply try to rock your washer back and forth. If you can rock your washer back and forth then one of the legs is too short and is causing it to be unlevel and therefore causing the disruption. The little legs should screw up and down so just locate the short one and with a pair of plyers twist it to the left. This may require some help from some strong friends. If these two don't help, call a repair man. You'll do more damage than good if you try to do it yourself.

the washer could be out of level. check your owners manual on how to do that or check on line at the manufacturers web site. plan the loads of wash, i.e. don't put one large bath towel in with socks and underwear, put two or more. don't pack the washer full, drop the clothes in loosely. if doing a small load, set the load selector switch to a smaller load cycle. you want the water to just cover the clothes when wet, you can always go to a larger setting if need be. put pantyhose in a laundry bag so that they won't wrap around the agitator. for really big or heavy items such as rubber backed bath rugs or blankets and comforters, take them to the laundromat and do them in a front loader. this will save wear and tear on your machine as today's machines are not as heavy duty as those of your parents were. face it we live in a planned obsolescence, throw away society. it's funny, but growing up it was always the sisters that broke the washer, not the brothers and myself. dad thought we should know better! go figure. the family business was appliance parts and we kept our machines going a long time. hope these suggestions help, have a happy new year!

I agree with everyone else. Sounds like your washer is off balance. Level the floor underneath first. If it's old, my GE is 17 & just started with the balance problem. A new one from Sears about $300 with auto-balance & "quiet" system.

You machine is not properly balanced. Did you get a balancing kit when you bought it? If not, you can adjust the little feet on each of its corners until it is blanced. Try using a bubble level to make sure all for sides are balanced.

I would start by making sure the machine is level. Most machines have legs that can screw or unscrew to make them longer or shorter. Put a level on the machine and make sure it's completely flat. If it is flat (in both directions), then call for a repair person.

It could just be as simple as it being on an unbalanced floor. Check to see if you can rock it when it is not working. If so, you may need to shimmy a piece of wood under one corner or (depending upon the model) it may have adjustable corners.

It could be that your load is unbalanced. Make sure the weight is evenly distributed in the washtub.

it probably means your tub is out of alignment, maybe brought on by improperly loaded clothes. You need to pay careful attention to how you load your clothes, to avoid imbalances.
