Generally - No. You have to understand the difference between Yahoo mail and ordinary pop 3 email. Your Yahoo email (and everything else in your Yahoo account) is never ON your computer, as is the case with pop 3. It also "filters" your mail and sends questionable mail to your Bulk Box, while blocking known threat mail, and does a pretty good job of only sending your Real mail to your In Box. It then gives you a Spam button, as well as a Not Spam button, so you have additional control over your In Box mail. ANYTHING you down load from your Yahoo mail data bank is scanned before it is down loaded. Pop 3, on the other hand is downloaded directly to your computer via such software as Outlook. My experience with many years as a Yahoo user is such that I have NEVER gotten any malware from Yahoo. Not from Yahoo mail, groups, Answer, or any of the other Yahoo services I use.

Certainly, it is not very likely, but if a virus can be insewrted into an Image File it can get in anything.
The question is not how to prevent a computer virus, the question is are you prepared for one.
You should be, everyone should be. You have any data on your PC that you feel is important. Make a backup. You want tolose everything on your computer, do not make a backup and you will. It is just a matter of time untill a virus gets past your $300 a year AV setup, but it is going to happen, are you prepared?
Make a Backup.
