R u talking about reverse swinging or air swinging?Ball is well balanced in the air since it has a seam which divides the ball in to two halves.

Swinging direction depends on the way u hold the seam.U get inswinging deliveries, out swinging deliveries and all depend on the way u hold the seam.

For reverseswinging to occue u have to make a one side heavier than the other side. For that they shine a one side or scrattch and on the other side they apply spit(or any misture) in order to increase the weight of the other half.Due to that reason when the ball is delivered it tends to fall on the heavier side so reverswinging happens.

Wind factor is also another deciding factor.Swinging direction depends on the wind direction too against the air resistance with moments of innertia!

i think its due to the fact that the shinier side is heavier than the scruffed up side.so it leads to different relative velocity of the ball wrt to air which results to tilting of the ball in one side and ultmately swing

Its how you place your fingers along the seam of the ball, that will determine an inswinger,or outswinger If your a right hander, place your middle finger running parallel along the side of the seam.Place your index finger, making a V sign from your middle finger.Do it naturally.not stretching it.Then swap the finger positions.Place your index finger along the seam, with your middle finger making a V .
