First of all, Congratulations!! Secondly, babies change a lot when they are newborns, especially their coloring. There is a good chance your daughter's skin will become darker, just like her eye coloring won't be determined until she is about 9 months! About the black stuff, if the doctor isn't concerned I wouldn't stress about it either. Just be glad she is here and healthy! Good Luck

It usually takes a few days for a darker skinned baby to start getting her coloration. The darkness around your baby's lips might be an indication that her pigment is going to darken. This is just an example but my 5 yr old niece is mixed race (1/2 black, 1/2 white). Her dad is very dark complected and my sister is a pale skinned, red-head. My niece has an olive skinned caucasian complexion with blue eyes. Her 1/2 brothers and sister on the other hand are also mixed race (the same as her) and they are all much darker, like their dad. So there's really no way of telling what your little girl's coloration will be until it actually happens.

The black stuff could have been caused by something you ate lots of. My sister was born covered with something that looked like black fuzz and the doctor guessed correctly that my mom had eaten alot of oranges.

By the way, congratulations! Hope you & baby are doing well.

The baby will continue to get darker and it is possible that it will not reach its actual skin tone until around a year old. most mixed, or even full black babies come out very light or pink.

Not sure about the black stuff around the lips.

But speaking about black stuff... get ready for meconium. It's the first poop that'll be coming out. Not really "poop" but it comes out the same way.

The problem with it is that it's a ***** to get off. Sticky and grimy. Gross really. A friend of mine told me (after the fact) that if you put some vaseline on the bum the meconium is much easier to clean and it'll make your life easier.

Check with your doctor first (just in case) but vaseline on the bum makes meconium less of a hassle.

Congrats on your bundle of joy!

Enjoy!

don't know about the black stuff on the lips but black babies don't get their coloring until they are several hours until a few days old. They are usually born kinda pinkish.
