I like the idea of rotating restaurants, where the restaurant is at the top of a tower, and it turns around slowly so the diners can see the entire city... how about having a restaurant built around a ferris wheel, like the London Eye? The diners could eat the meal whilst the capsule went around, and if they had a second course, they could pick it up when the capsule got back to earth again, or there could be several 'stations' on the arc of the wheel where the food could be posted in to the diners via a 'dumb waiter'.

Alternatively, how about having the same concept, but underwater? Instead of being lifted up into the air, the diners are taken out in a submarine capsule through a tank filled with all different kinds of fish and marine life. Or you could combine both ideas- a standard capsule with clear, solid walls that can be taken up in the air on one rotor arm and underwater on the next cycle on another rotor arm as the diners choose...

I mean, the night club bit might have to be in a main room separate to the capsules, but maybe you could make it so that the club area was also a bit of a view station, where you could see the capsules going around... if each one had a light on the outside it could be quite beautiful... and the capsules could have one way glass, so the people in the club wouldn't be able to see inside... but there could be images projected onto each capsule, maybe clips from popular films?

Oh, how lovely! If you don't go with this idea, I may have to do something about it myself... of course, if you're actually going to build the thing, running costs for this design would be pretty exhorbitant, but if you just want to design it, it could be a really interesting and different project. Good luck!

I used to own a restaurant and have worked in lots of bars back in my college days. Now as a customer on the other side of the bar the thing I look for is a place where the bar is away from eating and children, where the music is not interrupted by diners and language is not regulated. In other words an adult atmosphere. Perhaps you would get more input if you asked people what they look for in a successful place. My guy and I average $100 a night when we go out and sometimes that's 3 or 4 times a week you would think that customers like us would be appreciated, huh?

seperating the elements and area is very important...... glass tile is really hot right now check out sicis the art mosaic factory ... I just finished a hammered and patinaed bar top and the cool thing that worked was that it was then covered with glass so it would stay just like that only age slowly and beautifully under the glass and be easy to clean and it deepens the look of it I use smaller irregular pieces of copper and brass escutheon pins as stitching so that the glass rides up a bit on the rounds head of the pins and I was able to use all kinds of different tectures in the copper some actually printed into the surface of it with my etching press. sorry very private residence so no photos allowed out of any of what I did which sucks but....they paid dearly for the priviledge, Watch not getting into something too trendy as that will change and then it will look dated and need to be done again too soon. Stainless is very cool I did a stainless steel inch wide grid on 16 inch center both ways on a wall that showed up between dark chocolate stained and glasse frames each hold photos which can change over time it would make a great entry way also when you introduce a new space try curving the walls so that it is a mystery until the person commits to walking all the way in.... that make the destination a surprise until the last... them have an asskickin focal point wall that can easily be changed out like a stage set with panels for all reasons or seasons in a store room changeout should be in an hour or two... that way that wall always surprises people because they expect to see the same thig everytime. also the curves help baffel the sound Do hardwood floors and rugs with a lighted glass floor trim about 14 inches from the wall all around each room to tie it all together and provide very subtle light its just light rope under tick glas tiles in a trough easy to move and repalse but very effective delicate up light.. again things like rugs can be changes often so they still lok different and look very elelgant and can be cleaned better than carpet plus they work better when you move them around to change the feel just abit. Glass block bar front lighted up so it is the ambient light source for the bar instead of mood lighting from above when makes nasty shadows and interfers with the clean line of the ceiling again a curved bar because it is inviting and allows people to interact from a distance without craning their necks etc etc etc have fun and visit lots of places with your hidden camera to document the things that you like haunt arch digest and trend mag for ideas or look up my e-mail and I will just keep throwing it at you if you wish, course I would want my initials carved into the bar or something like that as compensation good luck

Your question is vague and without much detail to go on... Start with Barnes & Nobel: Bar, Restaurant, Hotel Design books from around the world. There are severval Publishers to choose from. Also go to the travel section, this will provide images of style and culture that can be inspiring. Define your space: Make a list of the objects, materials and elements of style that fit in the genre of design that you are looking for.i.e. bamboo is to asia, Coconuts are to the caribean. From there you could turn the coconuts into pendent lighting. Tall bamboo randomly placed to define a section or area. Apply this anything. Good Luck

I think simplicity is the way to go - colors that reduce glare and dark places - good luck!@~
