Here is an interesting fact, the Korean War has not officially ended. A truce was signed but no peace treaty was ever made. Korea was divided and remains divided, N. Korea was a communist totalitarian state and remains the same.
What is important about the Korean war was what didn't happened: After the offensive from the north the US did not escalate it to a nuclear conflict in spite of Gen. MacArthur's recommendations.

I'm pretty sure it resulted in a stalemate where a DMZ was established at the border between South & North Korea. However, as we all know there is ongoing hostilities btwn the South & the North and to this day no formal peace treaty has been signed.

'The world was made safe for democracy.'
No, actually just the split of Korea into North and South, and precedent was established for further U.S. anti-communist, military invasions that led to things like Vietnam.
