major problem in the Mideast today including Iraq & Iran?

I do NOT think Israel would have to be removed to bring peace to the middle East. Just a Palestinian State which is what the majority of Palestinians want & would mean they would no longer suppor the radicals like Hamas.

It isn't the root cause of EVERY major problem in the Middle East (illegal invasions play a part as well) but it does overwhelmingly contribute to the hostility in the region towards the US and Israel. Unless there is a fair, just, two state settlement, there will never be any form of peace in the region.

However it is unlikely that the US and Israel will try to resolve it in this way any time soon, because policy regarding the Occupied Territories in both these countries is dictated by a tiny minority of hard line right-wingers who want to see an Israel stretching from the River Jordan to the Mediterranean Sea whilst ignoring the aspirations and opinions of the vast majority of Jewish and Israeli people who want to see peace in Israel and are prepared to give up land in order to do so.

The only resolution the Arabs/Persians would accept is the removal of Israel. The conflict has been going for over 80 years now, and although used as and excuse, is not the major issue in the middle east.

The true issue with the middle east is Islamic Fundamentalism. Unless the majority of muslims reject the fundamentalists, there will never be peace. Countries such as Pakistan are one coup away from being an Islamic state with nuclear weapons. The majority of people in Saudi Arabia would like to see the royal family ousted so Islamists can rule. Although a number of moderates have regained offices in Iran, the hardline clerics still dictate law.

The sad thing is, one of the only secular countries in the middle east was overthrown and is now influenced by the Iranian clerics. That country is Iraq. Having a secular country put Saddam at odds with Islamic Fundamentalists, and many people that he killed were the same. This does not, of course, include the Kurds which he murdered.

The reason for the conflict between Israel and the Arabs is that the Arabs, plain and simple, refuse to accept a Jewish state in their midst. They invented this whole idea of a "Palestinian people who deserve a state" just to use as a tool to dismember Israel.

Prior to partition, Palestinian Arabs did not view themselves as having a separate identity. When the First Congress of Muslim-Christian Associations met in Jerusalem in February 1919 to choose Palestinian representatives for the Paris Peace Conference, the following resolution was adopted:

"We consider Palestine as part of Arab Syria, as it has never been separated from it at any time. We are connected with it by national, religious, linguistic, natural, economic and geographical bonds.

"There is no such country as Palestine! 'Palestine' is a term the Zionists invented! There is no Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of Syria."
- Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, a local Arab leader, to the Peel Commission, 1937

As to how to solve the problem, the only way would be for Israel to have an overwhelming defeat of the Arabs and then dictate the terms for peace. Otherwise, the Arabs will never stop trying to destroy Israel.

It doesn't always take two to make a fight but in this case it does take two to make peace.

Palestine is quick to request cease-fires but is just as quick to send missiles into Israel once the cease-fire is in effect.
