I'd have to say Iron Maiden. I just loved the classical infused riffs they use to pump out. True groundbreakers. Always a huge fan of Judas Priest and Motorhead. British produced a lot of heavy hitters in the 80's.

We don't like Nirvana, and awesome's superlative form is most awesome.
I prefer Judas Priest, though they are a bit older...hits like Heavy Metal and Paint it Black, including Breaking the Law and Electric Eye...will stay with me forever...

It is the only old school metal band left that did not variate its music style- and they still kick @$$ over 20 years later!

It's gotta be Iron Maiden!! They really took it to the next level for bands like Metallica. Don't get me wrong ... Metallica totally rocks, but they used to be the warm up band for Maiden!!

Def Leppard. Their albums were awesome, especially Pyromania and Hysteria. Those songs still rock today!!

I think Motley Crue had the best spandex=>hair=>makeup formula, but Metallica had 'em all beat.
