What does it make me think of? Honestly?
My Uncle John / My brother's middle name is John
Long Johns (both the donut and thermal underwear)
The John (i.e. bathroom)
Big John
Little John
A Common Guy
A Nice Guy
Traditional Name
John Doe
John Hancock

Good and Bad for this name is that it is common. Here is the ranking from the Social Security Administration for the Past 5 years (2006 is not available yet):
2005 18
2004 18
2003 17
2002 17
2001 14

There are lots of nicknames and phrases associated with this name. I personally would not give my child the first name John. I would maybe use it as a middle name. If I were to use it for a first name I would try to give my son a more unique middle name. That way, if he decided he didn't like his name or there were 5 Johns in his class he could go by his middle name.

John is very common. It is a standard, traditional name. Depending on how you view that, it can be good or bad. I prefer John as a middle name not a first name.

John is a very common name so most likely he will have someone else in his classes throughout school named John so they'll probably call him by his middle name or give him some type of nickname

It reminds me of my grandfather and my mother (Johnnie) and my cousin. John is a family name. It is bad because it is not a good name for a little kid. Most likely kids will call him johnny. It is good because there are not much bad nicknames that come straight from the name. For example, Gina is a bad name, because all someone has to do is add a VA to it to get a dirty word.

Good; it's a classic
Bad;it's a classic ex :like ahhh..the sound music (i have nothing againest the movie myself ) but after see it like a 1000 times well... it gets old
picture;a tall & or medium size white guy in a $100 suit & tie w/ thick brown hair
So u see it's an ok name besides the fact EVERYONE knows at least 10 guys with that name.

I think that it is a over-used... old fashioned name. When i think of John, I just think of a boring name, that the mother didnt take time to think of a better name. Although, some people like those "older" names, so its really whatever floats your boat!
