I have a hp computer but the motherboaed died. I bought a compaq motherboard. Since hp and compaq are together, I figured I could use my hp pavilion recovery disk, but I can't. It says it's only for hp computers. Is there anyway around it to install it?

i'm sorry, yet i don't think of this would artwork. With each residing house windows software kit comes a key code. the major code won't be able to be used on multple pcs. you receives a message declaring some thing like: this code is already in use. in case you try to do this, you'll lose each little thing on your Compaq and would ought to apply your Vista fix disk to re-set up Vista on Compaq.

I hate to tell you, but ALL OEM software licensing dies with the PC it was originally installed on.

Microsoft will only refer you to HP & HP will only try to sell you a new PC or board.

From Microsoft :

Q: Can I transfer my OEM Operating System license from my old PC to my new PC?
A: No, you can’t as OEM license is not transferable.

call compaq and secure the recovery disks for that model of compaq, they usually charge a small amount for the disks.
