Do you think it is a slap in the face that a growing number of men would rather get married to a foreign woman instead of getting a feminized US woman? Why do you think this is a growing demand?

One wonders why, if women are not threatened by foreign brides, they tried to have them outlawed with the International Marriage Broker Regulation Act added on to VAWA:

http://www.imbra.org/

American men aren't marrying American women because of the high rate of divorce (like 50%), whereas with foreign women it is around 10%. Simple mathematics.

More information on why men are not marrying American women can easily be found by perusing some of the main section posts at:

For a start. The orginal dontmarry essay there should more or less explain the situation better than I can.

I also think it is interesting that US women are NOT in any sort of demand overseas and there is no market catering to them.

A lot of people are generalizing here which is especially a waste of time when talking about things like love and marriage. I married a very independent woman from Eastern Europe who I met while living there (for over two years). She did not want to move and it took some convincing -- I do find it annoying if people assume that I married her because I couldn't stand American women or some nonsense like that. I just happened to meet the right person overseas. And sometimes foreigners can make better companions if you prefer to have life be a constant mix of adventure and discovery. If a "panic" of generalization happens because of this it's only a storm in a teacup. And I know plenty of women who marry foreign men.

Well, if it is a slap in the face, it is not my face they are slapping.

Yes, I think it is possible that men who get discouraged with the man-haters ("feminism" is not really the word, you know; more like fem-Nazi, whether or not you like the guy who coined the term) are turning more to women from more traditional cultures. And if the relationship is sincere on both sides, I got no quarrel with them.

I do think some girls marry Americans because they are Americans, and not because they are in love with them. Some of these confidently expect to learn to love their husbands, just as their mothers taught them is traditional. But some probably say to themselves, "Oh, well, we can always get divorced later if necessary." That cynicism should not be encouraged.

Also, it is probably true that some men who marry these old-fashioned girls end up abusing them, figuring since she can't afford to go home to Mama when Mama is thousands of miles away means he has a free hand with her.

But I also believe many sincere, loving marriages are contracted between people who started out in very different places.

What are the percentages of American men who marry foreign brides? The numbers aren't remotely close to frightening ANY woman. It just seems like a huge trend- but that is all it is: an impression.

Otherwise, inter-racial or inter-cultural marriages are great!

1) I don't know any of them.

2) Not at all... I say find love where ever you can and be happy.

3) From talking with my son about getting married. He will definitely look foreign due the the mouthy ones he has met around here and most were over weight & smoking. He has a right to his guidelines like everyone else.

Are you talking about mail-order brides? I personally know of two men who did this. One was Phillipino & one was eastern Eurpean. Both guys were happy for a year or so & then the women became Americanized & found out what their rights are in this country & eventually divorced them. The women made out great. The men, who paid a lot of money just to get them here, lost even more when they lost them.

First off English women don't count because if you haven't notice
America and the UK have been happily married for over 100 years now, they impact eachother. Any who. I'm not surprised because men obviously cannot handle the embittered independent women they have created. If more of you stayed around and did what you were supposed to do once the baby came then we wouldn't feel the need to be so self reliant. That is only for some cases though I will not broad stroke everyone. But that's hows I sees it.

I think the general impression overall (women AND men that I've talked to) is that men who go for "foreign brides" are pathetic losers who can't get a girl the "normal" way. The impression is that they possess very little "social collateral"--they are ugly, have chronic halitosis, very poor social skills, or all of the above. Some people think these girls are being taken advantage of, but it seems to me they are only in it for the green card. I mean, they maybe chat on line for a while, MIGHT get a picture, and suddenly they're in love and ready for marriage? PLEASE! Why would these girls put themselves up for display on these "matchmaking" websites for American men unless their motivation was a free ticket to America? Like the guys are so much better over here! And the general consensus over seas is that THAT is CERTAINLY not the case! No offense to guys who've found "love" this way, but it seems contrived and purely "convenient" for both parties, but more so for the women. Either way, I think women with plenty of "social collateral" of their own aren't that worried about it. These are the kind of guys that would have never gotten the "quality" girls, anyway.
And "rmm"-what you are talking about is completely different. Certainly there is nothing wrong with anyone meeting and falling in love with someone from another country. I think the question was more specific to "mail order" or "matchmaking" brides, where, often, the two parties have never even met before the woman sets foot in America. These are basically arranged marriages...very little love involved.

What about all the foreign men that are snatching your women, does it make you jealous lol.

But at the end of the day, if two people fall in love, why does it matter what nationality they are? If you are fealing threatened, then those are your own insecurities at work.

HTH : )

A friend of mine recently started a relationship with a women from Jamaica and they seem very happy so I'm considering doing it myself. After making a profile on a foreign dating site I already got 20 emails and winks the first night! Finally I know what it's like to be a woman on a dating site!! I think it's a way for men to cheat a system that is already heavily favored to women.
