I am planning to get married in March when I travel to Holland. It has taken much planning and yet i have told no one about it. How would you word your announcements. They will be getting them in the mail shortly after the wedding takes place.

Word it like this...... "Hi everybody!! Guess what...I went to Holland! Had a great time..saw Anne Frank's flat, the Van Gouch Museum, the Red Light District, and the Heiniken factory among other things. This really crazy thing happened though. I walked into a coffee shop, ate a magic brownie and then 5 hours later when I returned to reality I was married. Yay! I have a husband/wife now :)"

Make sure to put :) a the end of your announcement. That's key.

I assume you will be informing your immediate family before of your intent, and are asking about how to announce to your extended family the event ( not to solicit wedding gifts of course). The most common method of announcing a wedding is to send a card stating:
Jane Doe and John Doe are happy to announce their marriage on March 30, 2007 in Amsterdam, Holland. John and Jane will be residing in their home at 1 Main St Anytown, NY 11111 upon their return on April 1,2007.

I would send out announcements announcing your marriage and then think about planning a reception for when you return and the announcement can have an invitation to that on it. The reception can be as simple as a BBQ. I had a friend that got married in the Caribbean and then had a BBQ for friends and family when she returned...everyone wore flip-flops and toasted the new couple. Congrats to both of you!

Why not tell your family beforehand? If they can't make it to the wedding, maybe you can at least have a reception when you come back. I'm sure they would be disappointed to know you had been planning it and didn't include anyone in the news. If it's really extended family you're wondering about, just do a normal wedding annoucement: "So-and-so married so-and-so on this date at this place."

Good luck and congratulations!
