I am 15 and i love to sing, the only problem is that i have NO vibrato at all. Is it something that has to be learned with a teacher or can I learn it on my own, because my parents don't know that i like to sing and i don't wanna spend money on a voice teacher. any help would be VERY appreciated..

Vibrato is something that you get as you get older. You may not really have it yet. Don't force it, 'cause it isn't even something you need. A voice teacher can help you control it, but if you don't have the money you can talk to a friend who takes lessons or anyone you know that sings well with vibrato. I just started getting vibrato and it made my voice crack when I was singing in my mixed voice. I talked to my voice teacher about it and she helped me use it. It's mostly in how you think about it. You don't really try to do it, you just think of changing how much air you are using. If you use too much vibrato you may sound like a bad singer, because often people will use vibrato to hide pitch problems. If you don't feel any vibrato, you may just not have any yet. You don't need vibrato to sing well.

I had the same problem, yes it would be better to go to a vocal teacher especially for vibrato, BUT there are exercises you can do at home to help it come along. Hold out long notes, do la's, ah's and oh's just one note dont change the pitch hold it for 10 seconds and try to make the vibrato. Dont shake your head or chin, if you still dont hear a vibrato just keep holding out the notes and you should hear something at the end of the note. Doing daily vocal exercises at home helps too, join chorus at your school! Hope this helps, ;0)

My freinds saidhey you don't ahve a vibrato and you never will. So I practiced and practiced until I finally could use my vibrato. It would help to got to a costly teacher. But as for me a couple of years of practice and I learned to use it, patience is what made it possible. So practice is my answer.

I'm a sophomore music composition major at Baylor University School of Music. You need to find an expensive OPERA voice teacher... NOT one who will teach you to be Jessica Simpson or something. That will take you farthest in music. Professional singing is opera singing. And, once you have mastered that in about 10 years, you will be able to sing/do anything you want!
