I can't belive everyones first choice (UK anyway) is not Only Fools and Horses.
Besides probably being the funniest show every with moments of absolute brilliance, the reason i've suggested it is because the characters were allowed to progress and develop in almost real time.
Yes, it's a comedy show but we also saw the death of main characters and even a child, people personalities changing with age and real lives develop before us.
Ther has been no other show that has made us cry with laughter and cry with sadness to such an extent.

My children really like the TV series,

I loved the original Dr Who when I was young and like the new Doctor Who too. Torchwood is a bit of a disappointment though.
