Why can I read only part of a DVD?

My DVD drive is Samsung SD-608. When I insert a DVD-R disk into it, it shows the files but when I try to open any file the drive just keeps on trying to read from the drive. Whats wrong?
The DVD is fine. I can read that in other drives.

There's a few possibilities...

If this happens with each and every DVD you put in the drive most likely you have a physical problem. Either the motor isn't spinning correctly or the laser is out of alignment.

Another possibility is that the firmware or driver for the DVD drive is failing.

If the DVD drive is still under warranty, you should try replacing it.
