Let's say I wanted to buy all the games on the Virtual Console list and I wanted to find a way to earn Wii Points besides buying them. Will the Wii allow different ways to earn points, such as beta testing different games/channels, etc.?

There's no other way to earn them right now, but having a points system in place allows Nintendo to implement other ways of earning them in the future--survey rewards, contests, even competitions. And, of course, it allows Nintendo to have a "lock" on your chunk of money before you even have to spend it, as some will no doubt want a certain number of points already banked rather than go through the purchasing of Wii Points each time they want something.

There is no other way. Wii points must be bought, and are used to pay for the games you are downloading off of the virtual console to play.
Those games cost money to develop, so the developers need to get paid for their hard work.
