Management is boring...

Because in our world, getting to the "Top" is all that most folks struggle for. They focus on the destination and not the journey. What they don't realize is that management is not the "do-all, end-all, be-all" that they expect it to be. Personally, if you are getting out of managment and "back into the field" then you must have a reason for it, and I for one applaud you. Bravo! Good luck with your career. If this is right for you, then don't let others tell you that you are crazy.

The people that think you are crazy are either people in management that did not like life in the field or people that think that life is better in management.

Having done both, there are positives to each. Management tends to pay more, but you are responsible for the productivity of those in the field that are not under your direct, daily supervision.

The field tends to pay less in organizations that I have been with, but you do not have someone looking over your shoulder all of the time asking for progress reports.

I tend to think that the field is not as good now because of the proliferation of cell phones and the Blackberry. Management can reach out and touch so much easier than 10-15 years ago.

I hated management!!! It was the worst!! You're up all hours of the day and night...you have to worry about making plan..worry about your DM and higher up people. EVERYTHING falls on you. It isn't worth it. Ecscpecially if you're at a place you don't love! Working in the 'field' is much better, b/c you can still work at the place, but you don't have to worry about all the other stuff w/ it. Granted, you won't get paid as much...but you'll have your sanity back!

because in the field you are the king or have some degree of autonomy.
in the office/mgmt., everyone is watching one another, very competitive with lots of stress.
