I only said I am an FBI agent I didn't give out any other info, as in where I live, my name or anything really personal. Why would I say I am an Agent? I wouldn't really get anything out of it, now would I?

Some of it may have to do with Hoover. He was a nasty piece of work. He spied on everyone, blackmailed people even though he had his own dirty little secrets. When an organization is founded by a creep like him, it is bound to have credibility problems.

That said, apart from its fair share of incompetents, I believe it does a good job. Anyone breaking the law is bound to dislike any law enforcement officers. And remember, it is not just drug dealers, terrorists etc. who break the law. Many upstanding citizens like Hoover have their nasty little secrets they don't want investigated.

I have a good friend who is an FBI "special agent" -- he's a great guy, and a good agent.
However, like any law enforcement job, some of the people that do these kinds of jobs tend towards being overly assertive, overly arrogant, and they love being "in power." My own friend complains about agents who bend the rules to make arrests and convictions, who treat people very poorly (sometimes outside of the law), and who apparently think they themselves are above the law. Personally, I'm sure there are a very small percentage of those types in the FBI, but they are there. And it just takes one bad apple to make the public think ALL FBI agents are like that, as the bad ones usually get all the public notice.

There's also a general mistrust of authority in the US -- it's always been that way, but even more so in the case of the FBI when stories about how Hoover ran the organization (keeping secret files one people, infiltrating harmless organizations he branded as "commie", etc.) are made public.
The public impression often is that the FBI is "out to get people" -- whether true or not, it makes people not trust agents.

Personally, I want to thank you for serving your country in this important role. And I hope you'll continue to be an honest, upright, respectable representative of your agency.

I think Waco & and the killing of Randy Weaver's wife and son, turned the nation against the FBI & the BATF.

You in the FBI are starting to get your reputations back now.
(I just hope you don't do any more evil like Clinton & Janet Reno got you into.)

GOOD LUCK.
