I'm 18 weeks pregnant with my second pregnancy and I've only gained one lb. so far. I'm not complaining:), and I'm not worried about our (the baby and me) health. We are doing good:) But I'm a little worried about gaining a bunch in short period of time. I really haven't changed my eating patterns since becoming pregnancy, besides cutting out my beloved coke-a-cola:) Of course I try and eat better and more healthy things, but I do give into the tempting, high calorie foods:) I'm a size 12, but I am in maternity. What are some of your experiences? Stretch marks are a concern in gaining weight to fast. Will I just not gain that much with this pregnancy if I keep my same eating pattern? With my first pregnancy I had already gained at least 10-12 lbs. so far, and I'm sure my weight now has something to do with not gaining as much this time. Thanks for your answers:)

You have a way to go yet in your pregnancy. If you only splurge on your diet once in a while, well, that's better than me. Just pace yourself and maybe count your calories. I have found that stretch marks are a hereditary factor more than anything, but you are correct that gaining weight rapidly contributes. I gained 60 pounds with the first and lost all but 15 pounds. I find myself pregnant again and in the same boat. Just remember it takes a while to put on and it takes just as long to take off.

I would think you would still gain some weight, probably more towards the end at least. I know my weight came on in spurts: nothing for two weeks, then +3 pounds, etc. Just keep eating as much healthy stuff as you can. I ate a serving of dark chocolate everyday because of the reports that the baby is happier, so don't worry too much about occaisional splurging. :) I did not get any stretch marks, but I have read that that is more hereditary than anything. If you didn't get any last time, you're not likely to this time either. And as for the happy baby thing, my baby is exceptionally non-fussy most of the time.

According to my doctor he didn't want me to gain much within the first 3 months. At my last visit I'd only gained 1.5 pounds in a month.

He wants me to gain a total of 18 pounds throughout the entire pregnancy.

But, if your worried about gaining weight don't go out and eat a bag of potato chips just to gain some more. It's better to do it with things that are healthy for you nuts, olive oil, etc. But, don't take it overboard just because you haven't gained 10 pounds yet!

Congratulations and good luck!

There are a number of workout videos specifically designed for pregnant women that are great. Keep you active and energetic. Of course you would need to check with your doctor first. As for stretch marks, cocoa butter creams are great. Palmer's makes a stretch mark cocoa butter cream that I really like.

You should be changing your eating habits. Not only do you need to eat healthy food, you need to eat all throughout the day instead of only 2 or 3 meals.
