I'm the lead guitarist, I started the band, but the lead singer sings shock rock in kind of a rap tone. The drummer plays old 70s country. Then the bass is like obsessed with Paul Mccartney, so we are all mixed. I play kind of a "dude rock" type of music. What should I do? The sound of the band is retarded.

Sit down with your band and figure out what you all want to do. If you all really want to play "dude rock," then you need to do it altogether. The issue I find with musicians is that they like what they like and you cannot steer them to like something else. This sounds like the issue with your group of misfits. Some of you may have to adapt to the type of music the other musicians are playing, or you are going to have to find a new group of misfits that like the same type of music you do.

If you want to rock, you need to find a drummer who isn't a p*ssy. Probably the best band of misfits I've ever known are some kids that I went to high school with. The drummer was (and still is awesome). He's all punk rock, so he plays hard and fast. But he is so good at it that he can slow down if needbe. The bassist is a RHCP reject. The guitarist was a rockabilly-type. The singer was sorta punk also. But he really liked all sorts of music so he was very lenient as to what to sing or how to sing it.

Good luck with your band. You may need an overhaul of members though.

To make it in the rock music business catching a trend is extremely important. Try to figure out what the current trend is and try to form a new band based on that trend. Just remember, however, trends only last for a few months or a few years at the most. That's why you have to jump on the trend bandwagon really early to have a chance of success.

its your band, so tell them to play the kind of music you play. Judging from what you said, the band is pretty retarded.
