im doing a powerpoint project for a class, and i have to find a way to support my thesis. any ideas on how to go about doing this powerpoint would be appreciated!

I wonder if you're getting the direction mixed up? As in, how does appearance determine personality vs. how does personality determin appearance?

If personality --> appearance, then all the stuff people are saying about how people choose to dress to reflect who they are is relevant.

But if appearance --> personality, then I think it becomes a much more interesting question. For example, say a girl is really pretty. People tend to want to be around attractive people, and therefore will act more friendly to her than her ugly friend. So over time, maybe her pretty appearance leads to her being more friendly herself, because everyone around her treats her as a friend.

A more depressing example is racism. If everyone around an Asian student assumes he's going to study hard because they can tell by his appearance that he's Asian and the stereotype is that Asians study hard, then maybe over time he actually will.

You get the idea. If appearance triggers assumptions based on stereotypes, then it can influence a person's environment (social environ especially, that is, how people treat him), which can in turn influence the person's character.

Looks can be deceiving. Everyone that meets me for the first time says that I have a sort of mean look about me, but I am a very nice person. As far as the clothing goes, it also doesn't always go along with the persons personality. I know a man in my neighborhood that if you saw him he would come across as a bum-my type and he is really very wealthy. Owns a BMW, a boat, and has a $350,000.00 home. So appearances can fool you some times. The basic public dress to their mood. If you see someone at Christmas for instance, they are usually dressed to look nice as well as someone going to church or to work. If you someone wearing a pair of pants that are exposing their underwear then in most cases it a person that either thinks he's "bad" or someone that wants to be and is a punk. If you see someone who goes around with their hair messed up all the time and dresses messy all the time it would tell me that, that person doesn't care what others think of their appearance. It all depends on how you judge people. Many people believe that people that dress in mostly black and look rather dark are goths or emo's. Others believe those that look posh are stuck up. Apperances often reflect people in less judgmental cases such as...a very clean well dressed well smelling person would be someone you would like to know. You would guess these people dearly look after themselves. I hope that helps

Appearance doesn't SHOW your personality, it reflects it. When someone looks dirty, then it shows they don't care about what they look like. If they look clean, they do. If someone wears bondage pants and studded chocker necklaces, then that reflects their personality the way that a preppy girl in pink sweaters and courderoy pants reflects hers.

yes in most cases the good looking ones are really stuck up and think that they can just get everything they want just because of there looks.

Your looks don't tell your personality. But sometimes, if they have a friendly smile on, I think that you can count on them being friendly. If they aren't, then you can't, that's my opinion.

Well for one thing if you do not shower or shave it might mean they are lazy. Well dressed might make them proper. I mean you could use alot of angles here.
