The only way you could is if the cow knew you really well and ignored you as you came up to shove it. A cow is a prey animal- they keep watch on everything unless they feel comfortable with the person walking by. We have tried, but no one ever wanted to spend the time to get to know the cow. I have a farmer friend who swears that he did it once, but he milks the cows morning and night, so they would be used to him.

No, and any one who tells you they did it is lying, so feel free to call them on it. Cows only sleep for a few minutes at a time. You can tell when they are sleeping they will be laying down with their head turned back towards their rear. But most importantly cows are herd animals. And in a herd the animals take turns keeping watch. You would not be able to get close enough to a cow in a herd to "tip" it over. Even if the cows were tame, if you went to push on it, it would simply walk away (wouldn't you). Cow tipping is one of those things right up there with snipe hunting. Only idiots with no knowledge tell their "tales" of doing them.

Yes, it is possible with enough force, to tip a cow over. However, it is a danger to both you and the cow. The force required to do it and the resulting fall of the cow will break it's ribs and the broken ribs could puncture internal organs and the cow will likely die. It is dangerous to you because instead of tipping away from you, the cow could tip onto you thus pinning you to the ground and likely breaking a bunch of your bones if it doesn't kill you. This practice is juvenile and extremely cruel. Find another way to amuse yourself.

from someone born and raised on a dairy - the prank I suspect is a snipe hunt (excuse to get a "friend" alone left in the middle on nowhere) Basic premise sneaking up on a sleeping cow is majorly flawed: cows sleep lying down - for seconds at a time.

My brother once offered $200 for a demo in a bar full of cow tipping boasters - no takers....

Yes, indeed you can. A Farrier usually has a machancial device that a cow walks into and the sides close in and the cow is laid on its side while the hoof is trimmed.

I don't think that it is possible to tip a cow. I mean get real, are you really going to go up to a cow, and be able to push it over. My answer is NO.

yes it is possible to tip a cow. contrary to several of the answers it is not dangerous to the animal. it is also not true that cows sleep lying down. they sleep similar to horses and other barnyard animals, standing up with their knees locked. "tipping" a cow is simply going up to a cow while they are sleeping and scaring them. it startles them awake but because they didn't wake themselves up, their knees are still locked and thus they fall over due to lack of balace. it does not hurt them but they probably don't appreciate it too much.

yes you can, but it takes 3-4 people since they are quite large.
also since your most likely on someone that lives on the farm with the cows, it will be hard to do because they will wake and move away from you.
