If it's a newer dell, there are two plastic buttons, one on the top and one of the bottom. Press both of them at the same time and pull your desktop in opposite directions. Your desktop will open like a book. You don't actually remove the cover.

Go to http://support.dell.com
Type in the service tag code or model number of the PC
View the Service Manual and it will have the instructions
You did not give the model number, so can not be more specific
With most newer Dells, you press in releases on each side of the PC and it opens - no screws to remove.

Dell uses a wide variety of case designs - if its the one with the big cut-out at either side if the front, just pull that funny black plastic thing on the rear of the top back and the whole right-hand side should spring open from the top. Just lift it off.

What model Dell? There are usually screws on the back of the case holding the side on...unscrew them and slide the side of the case toward the back and then remove it. Another option is the clam shell case...if there are 2 buttons near the back of the case, push them and then open the case like a clam shell.
